High Resolution Tiled Display Wall - Room 139 Computer Building
Technical Documentation and Systems Manual
The GEaRS Visualization Group is developing a twelve-projector (3 x 4) tiled
display wall, to be driven initially by a twelve system (24 processor) linux
graphics cluster. The development environment will rely heavily on Chromium
and/or similar open-source parallel rendering schemes to yield a
high-resolution (4096 x 2304) large screen (approx 11.5' W x 6.5' H) display.
Using the large, high-resolution display should facilitate visual understanding
for problems in which multiple scales or levels of detail are of interest, in
that the large display can provide context while still offering sufficient
resolution to observe meaningful detail in smaller areas of the screen.
As is the case for all resources of the Visualization Group, we are actively
seeking applications partners to help evaluate and demonstrate the suitability
of the clustered computing and large-screen display environment for
visualization problems from various disciplines. The findings from this work
should have general applicability, as we expect that the underlying technology
and software approach should be scalable and adaptable to a variety of
applications, as well for use under various computing and display
configurations.
